Japanese Speciality Restaurant, London

A unique eating experience, the central customer table is styled on the paper folding tradition of ‘origami’- here the chefs theatrically prepare food in front of the customer.

The central feature is a table that flows through the space, maximising covers whilst having a distinct Japanese styling based on the paper folding tradition of ‘origami’. The table wraps around the chefs performing at the Tappen stands- putting them ‘centre stage’. The room is treated as a canvas and kept neutral to put focus on the table. The bar has tilted mirrors providing glimpsed views of the on-going performance at the tables, building anticipation in those waiting. The space is dynamic and fluid, reflecting the movement of the chefs. The table can be reconfigured to suit a variety of spaces and conditions, whilst retaining, and enhancing the brand identity. The project was completed on a tight budget and program.
